Suspect sheet pile walls can be quickly controlled by Geo Plus, Scheemda, Holland. Our hydrographers with new equipment and more sophisticated methods of measurement made significant progress in showing the state of sheet piling under water.
Improved hydrographic-files bring the angle formed by sheet piling and under water bottom clearly in the picture, abnormalities become visible. The client can see for themselves what is going on. Because of the great experience our people are well able to interpret the images and failure costs can be avoided. Precious dive-inspections may be possibly omitted.
Sheet piles are geotechnical constructions that can collapse suddenly and unexpectedly with all the including dangers. The largest and most important part of the structure is under water and there may be occurring unvisible changes. E.g. by a collision, forces resulting from berthing ships, bad locked sheet piles which can cause slipping away of sand, deformations, skew, corrosion, etc. Several factors can not be determined by optical inspection.
Better course for major sheet piles and embankments is to check periodically.
