Geo Focus
Our latest survey vessel is the Geo Focus. After about 20 years of hydrographic research, Geo Plus has gathered lots of practical experience. All this knowledge is bundled into the Geo Focus. The results and conclusions of this way of permanent education we will apply to our future ships.
The world of hydrographic survey is changing. Farewell to the big unwieldy survey-ships consuming too much fuel. At Geo Plus, we believe that the future is for agile, stable, cost-effective ships, special designed for their jobs and using considerable less fuel. The diesel-direct mode is used for cruising, but in working conditions like dynamic-positioning with lower speed, the ship can be used in diesel-electric mode. This results at least in two advantages:
- Less noise under the ship, aiming for a better quality of the measuring data.
- Better combustion in the main engines. This result in less maintenance and longer working periods
High quality communication solutions
Four UMTS antenna's are installed for broadband internet when the coast is nearby, in other cases reliable satellite communications are used. A Viprinet system is responsable for transferring processing-data to the dedicated hub on shore. There are also possibilities for VOIP ,TV reception and so on. For polar conditions like in Yamal (Siberia) and Sakhalin (North Pacific) a large diameter VSAT antenna is installed and also a third randome for satelite TV reception.
High level of comfort
The circumstances on sea can be very tough, so it is important that the working and living conditions for surveyors and crew are excellent. This ship is designed for comfortable operation in the icy conditions of the Barentsz Sea in the polar region north of Russia and Siberia. The deck is ice-free due to electric heating for good and safe working. On the other hand the Geo Focus has to work in regions with desert storms, like in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, with very high temperatures. The noise in the ship is according to modern high standards, very low. There are 2 single cabins and 8 double cabins (total 18 persons) and each cabin is provided with toilet and shower. On the Geo Focus each cabin has LAN and WLAN connectivity, in the mess and lounge a 37" HD TV is installed.
